DESCRIPTION:Sewing machine basics \n\nAre you intimidated by machine-sewing and want to learn the basics in a relaxed environment? Has it been ages since you’ve sewn and do you need to a refresh before tackling bigger projects? \nIn this workshop you will learn to comfortably navigate and use a sewing machine. Jera will cover foundational skills to include machine set-up\, tension problems plus any other questions you may have. In addition to learning these skills\, you will make a pillowcase to bring home. DESCRIPTION:Listening to the Land: An evening with Robert McGowan (Pa Ropata)\nNau Mai Haere Mai\, Tauranga City Libraries’ is honoured to present an evening with Robert McGowan\, QSM. \nRobert\, an author\, conservationist\, practitioner\, and educator\, has contributed to the revival and restoration of Rongoā Māori (traditional Māori healing) in Aotearoa. With his work guided by the whakatauki ‘Ka ora te whenua\, ka ora te tāngata – When the land is well\, the people will be well’\, Robert will speak of his journey to knowledge and share experiences and steps that we can all take to be part of the journey to wellness of the whenua and the people. Robert will speak on rongoā\, conservation\, plant identification\, his relationship with maramataka and with Matariki. DESCRIPTION:This is a subsidised workshop in The Incubator’s Matariki series. You can only book into one subsidised workshop\, so choose carefully! Bookings for all full price workshops are also open\, and you may book into as many of those as you wish.\nThis is an introductory workshop and a contemporary take on the traditional Maori art form of tukutuku. In this introductory workshop we hope to inspire you to get weaving and tell your story through tukutuku.\n\nTukutuku are found in Wharenui (meeting house). The walls are adorned with Tukutuku panels each telling stories of our ancestors. \n\nTutor: Ngawaiata Sellars\nWhat: Story Telling through Tukutuku\nDate: Wednesday\, 15th June\nTime: 6.30 pm to 8.30pm\nWhere: The Artery\nCost: $10\nTukutuku are made with various materials such as natural fibres like kiekie and pingao. That are then traditionally dyed with flora and fauna native to Aotearoa. We will have some of these materials on display at the workshop so you can see and feel the different textures and familiarise something new.\nThe patterns of tukutuku have symbolic meanings\, in this workshop you will learn the basics and go home with a handout to continue creating at home.\nhttps://www.eventspronto.co.nz/tukutukusub\n\nPlease note: This is a subsidised workshop in The Incubator’s Matariki series.
