SUMMARY:Learn Embroidery Stitching
DESCRIPTION:Tap into your creative side and learn to mend or revamp your clothes with images and symbols unique to you\, or make beautiful gifts for your friends. \nTraditional crafts are back in fashion. There’s renewed appreciation for the hand made and bespoke\, and that includes embroidery – a skill Aucklander Jo Dixey has brought very much into the 21st century with her streetwise designs and sense of fun. Jo travels the country hosting workshops \nIn this workshop\, Jo Dixey will teach you embroidery stitches that can be used to mend or revamp your clothes. In the course you will create a sampler of stitches to refer to for future projects. All materials are included in the course fees.\nWhen:  Saturday 2nd July 2022\, 10am – 1pm\nWhere:  The Remaker Space\, 26 Spring Street\, Tauranga\nCost:  $45 \nBOOK HERE \nMasks must be worn for the duration of the workshop.Thank you for respecting this and helping to keep our community safe.  \n \nAbout the artist: \nJo Dixey is a Royal School of Needlework trained embroiderer. She teaches small groups a variety of embroidery techniques and works on commissions which have included large altar cloths\, university banners and work for the fashion and movie industries. She also repairs old embroideries. In 2017 Jo published her first book Stitch People\, which was later re-released as Creative Thread. This is a 20 project journey through embroidery techniques. \nWhile you’re at the workshop\, check out Jo’s exhibition “Fragments”\, featuring hand embroideries created from naturally dyed fabric and threads as part of the New Zealand Embroideries Guild conference. \nJo’s work is held in private and public collections in New Zealand and overseas. See her work on instagram @dixeysoul

DESCRIPTION:Sewing machine basics \n\nAre you intimidated by machine-sewing and want to learn the basics in a relaxed environment? Has it been ages since you’ve sewn and do you need to a refresh before tackling bigger projects? \nIn this workshop you will learn to comfortably navigate and use a sewing machine. Jera will cover foundational skills to include machine set-up\, tension problems plus any other questions you may have. In addition to learning these skills\, you will make a pillowcase to bring home.
