SUMMARY:Resoursanance - Musical Upcycling Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Before modern musical instruments existed\, humans had to make music somehow – using what resources were available around them.\nCome and discover the age-old art of resourceful music making – Resoursonance ! \nWe’ll upcycle all manner of everyday objects and materials – sourced from secondhand and op shops\, the side of the road\, even your garage and backyard !\nEveryone is welcome\, young and old\, musician or not. \nBefore modern musical instruments existed\, humans had to make music somehow – using what resources were available around them. Come and rediscover the age-old art of resourceful music making – Resoursonance! \nAs part of Sustainable Backyards Bay of Plenty 2020\, join musician and co-founder/co-ordinator of The Rubbish Trip\, Liam Prince\, alongside local musicians\, instrument inventors\, taonga pūoro (traditional Māori musical instruments) practitioners – and you – for an evening of making music\, resourcefully. \nOur aim is to show how music can embody principles of environmental sustainability – and on the flipside\, what music can teach us about wastefulness in our society. We’ll chat about general principles and issues around waste\, as well as practical actions that help to minimise waste\, highlighting music as one specific area in which a resourceful\, waste-conscious approach can help you to reduce your environmental footprint in all areas of life. \n\nWe will focus on techniques for making sounds\, showing how you can do this with a range of everyday objects.
