SUMMARY:Sambo Drumming for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:Get your rhythm on!\nMusical Director. Fabio Camera\, along with the whole band\, invites beginners to come along and experience the joy of samba drumming. From September 24th\, we will be structuring our weekly practices so that beginners will be supported to pick up a drum or percussion instrument and feel the beats of Brazilian Samba. \nWe’d be thrilled to have new people join the club and grow the band. This introduction needs no more commitment than the course itself\, and if you find that samba is the thing for you\, you can carry on and join properly after that. \nFor four consecutive weeks\, from 7pm – 8.00pm at our normal practice venue\, Mount Maunganui Sports Centre\, Cnr Maunganui and Hull Rd. After 8pm\, the existing band members will be playing some more complex tracks to keep us gig-ready and you are welcome to keep up with us\, but the focus will change in this second half. \nBring earplugs if you have them\, but if not these will be provided. $40 for the whole course\, but this will be transferred to your full-year fees if you choose to join and continue. Please also bring water. Prepare to enjoy it immensely. \nHow will the practices play out?\n7pm – Arrive to check in and get set up with your instrument of choice.\n7.10pm – ready to play.\nFirst hour – Fabio will lead the band in learning and playing some simpler tracks. The pace may be slowed to allow for learning. Experienced band members will be on hand to support beginners.\nSecond hour – Fabio will focus on existing band members and high-energy tracks. Beginners will be welcome to join in where you feel comfortable\, and can revel in the energy and dynamism of the band at full force!\n9.00pm – Pack up. \nResources to help your learning.\nSamba drumming is primarily learned by doing. We have some videos of the tracks and specific instruments within the tracks. This is not exhaustive\, but we do continue to add to it\, and for the period of the beginners’ workshop you will have access to this resource. While there is some written description of the tracks\, we encourage you to listen\, watch and repeat! The group is very supportive and we have a lot of fun. No one will make you feel silly if you blast out a rhythm that still needs some work! DESCRIPTION:Come along to our Life Drawing bi monthly Life Drawing Session\nLife Drawing Session Friday (first and third Friday of the month) \nWhere: 171a Elizabeth Street West\, Tauranga\nKoha: $10.00 for Society Members\, $15.00 for Guests \nLife Drawing\, Figure Drawing… the act of drawing a living person.\nIt’s one of the most challenging and interesting ways to develop your drawing skills. Skills that translate to all aspects of art making.\nIt’s also a great way to escape into your own world for a little while.\nThis is an untutored session\, however\, we won’t leave you completely alone if you are new to it and need a little help getting started. It is a very friendly\, mixed level\, session and you will be surprised what you can learn and achieve with a little encouragement.\nIf you are an experienced artist or student a Life Model will give you unlimited inspiration and a chance to experiment with your technique\, materials and style. And we all appreciate and are inspired by new approaches.\nWe always take time for a feedback session before we leave. This is a positive and invaluable part of the session. It is inspiring looking at what worked during the session and why; sometimes the less obvious “works” provide the most interesting insights. There is always something to learn.\nBring your own drawing/painting gear (any media is fine)\, there is usually sugar paper available for sale at the Art Room. We do have some easels at the rooms\, but they are limited. If you have your own please feel free to bring it along.\nPlease turn up in time to assist with set up\, and stay on to assist with pack down. We are a self supporting group and if everyone helps it is very quick and easy. \nPS:  If you are interested in modelling and are available please feel free to PM me. We love experienced Models\, but are happy to use a sprinkling of “new” models… so don’t be reluctant if you haven’t done it before.
