SUMMARY:Eco Leaf Print Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Leaves and other botanical material are laid on fabric\, rolled and bound very tightly\, and with the help of dampness and heat\, release the dye compounds found in the material\, to give imprints of the leaves/plant matter on the fabric. This dyeing\, depending on some other factors in the process\, is colour and light fast. \nThe colour of the leaf (e.g. autumn colours) used bears little resemblance to the colour produced on the fabric\, as it is the dye within the leaf that is released\, and which gives the colour on the cloth. \nThe pieces produced can be used for bags\, book covers\, clothing\, cushions. \nSilk and wool fabric dye easily\, as does paper. Cotton and linen are a bit more tricky\, but can also be done. \nProposed Dates: \nJuly: Sat 24th\, Sun 25th \nTime: 9.30am to 4 pm\nVenue: 18 Mahy Way\, Leamington\, Cambridge\nCost: $140 for 2 days\, $85 one day (preferably first day if you are new to it). \nMaximum Number:  5\nPlease advise all the dates that would suit.  As long as I have at least 3 bookings for any of the dates\, I will certainly run it. SUMMARY:Indigo Dye Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Indigo Dye and Shibori: \nIndigo dyeing and shibori are ancient arts practised in many parts of the world\, particularly Asia and Africa. Shibori is a Japanese word meaning ‘to wring\, squeeze\, press’. The fabric is manipulated by stitch\, binding\, clamping\, wrapping etc with thread\, to form intricate patterns of resist\, which when it is dyed and revealed\, show beautiful patterns of white on the deep blue fabric. \nParticipants are shown how to make up the indigo dye vat\, then are shown various different shibori techniques  to produce samples which can then be used to make bags\, cushion covers\, book covers\, jewellery and even clothing. I have samples of suggestions and ideas for the use of your pieces. \nNatural fabrics (silk\, cotton\, linen\, wool can be dyed.
