SUMMARY:A Cool Way to Paint - Cold Wax Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Come along with friends and have an enjoyable time together learning a new Art medium for NZ. It was used in the late 1500’s by Titan and other painters of the Renaissance period. Even Rembrandt in the 1600s used it.\nThis is an amazing half day workshop to explore what cold wax is really made of\, how to use it and what NOT to do with it. Learn what rules you can break when using cold wax\, and what special benefits (namely\, amazing texture) come with this medium. See what kind of paints you should reach for and discover the simple tools you will need. Explore the surfaces that will work best when working with cold wax\, and how you can combine it with other art mediums such as mixed media\, photography\, painting and encaustic wax.\nA finished cold wax painting has several layers and with drying time\, can take weeks to complete. You will however\, come away with a better understanding of the cold wax painting process and the possible beginnings of a painting you can continue to work on at home/studio.\nTutor: Sue MacDougall\nEmail: kiwisuemac@gmail.com\nDates:\n18th April\nTime: 9am -12.30pm \nCost: $79.00 per session\nAll materials supplied \nNEXT WORKSHOP: TBA \n“It’s a rare occurrence for one specific painting medium to have a whole genre of painting associated with it\, but the cold wax medium is one such medium. Cold wax painting is not defined by subject matter nor the degree of realism or abstraction; cold wax painting is unified by artists’ shared interest in experimentation\, texture and the physicality of paint layers.”\nAfter over 20 years of living in Greece\, Sue now lives permanently in New Zealand\, although she does visit Greece once or twice a year. She is recognized for her bold and colourful work in different mediums that create structure\, depth\, movement and texture.
