Oriana Singers Choir
Oriana Singers Inc is a mixed-voice (SATB) choir with members from the greater Tauranga area. Choir members come from a variety of musical back-grounds, with some having never sung in a choir before to those who have sung in choirs for over twenty years.
The choir’s repertoire is varied, has wide appeal, and changes throughout the year. The choir works towards two main concerts per year with smaller community engagements (Anzac, Christmas, retirement villages) throughout the year as requested. The choir sings works ranging from traditional choral pieces, to jazz and popular pieces, as well as spirituals and folk songs. The choir also works with guest artists and other community musicians such as Tauranga Brass. The choir seeks to support young musicians in the community and will often invite young artists to feature in their concerts.
Being in the Oriana Singers is rewarding for members, musically and socially. Members enjoy singing in a large mixed-voice (SATB) choir. There is an expected level of personal commitment to achieve the standard required. Members are provided with practice CDs and web-based practice tracks, along with sheet music.
Singers need to join at the beginning of a concert cycle so they have enough time to learn the concert music.
It is not a requirement to read music as approximately half the choir are non-music readers. There is the opportunity to learn and regularly perform a diverse range of choral music to appreciative audiences. You will have the opportunity to attend vocal workshops and you will work on your singing technique during rehearsals.
You will belong to a sociable and supportive group of like-minded people.
The choir meets:
When: Rehearsals on Tuesdays 7pm-9pm
