Learn all the basic clay and wheel techniques and get to know the necessary pottery tools and equipment to perfect the craft!\n\nEach week Sophie will demonstrate different techniques on and off the wheel – from storage and wedging to turning and pulling cups\, bowls\, plates\, handles and spouts! Once participants have a range of pieces they’re happy with\, Sophie will introduce students to the glazing and firing process.\n\nAt the end of the series\, the last week will be a gathering for participants to debrief and exhibit their work to their friends and family!\n\nSpaces are limited\, so get in quick!\n\nSophie Evans\, a past resident artist of the Pot House\, here at the Incubator\, is both a hand sculpting and wheel throwing potter and tutor. You can find her work on display and for sale in the Pot House. She says – ‘I have enjoyed clay for as long as I can remember. I have played around with different mediums\, but nothing has captivated me as much as clay. I went to Whitecliffe Art School\, where I studied for a Diploma in Art and Design. During this time at Whitecliffe\, we explored clay and I expressed how much I would love to work in ceramics. I spent four years working towards my Ceramic Diploma in the Waikato. My style and signature look are very fluid with an organic and naturalistic feel\, which you will see reflected in how I have set up my workspace (the curves in flax\, water\, pods and driftwood you will see come through in the ceramic vessels I make).’\n\nWhen: 18th July to 22nd August 2023\nTime : 6pm – 8pm\nWhere:  The Incubator Creative Hub\nCost: $350 \nBOOK HERE

SUMMARY:Poetry Club: Read Between the Rhymes
DESCRIPTION:The theme for this month:   Swallows\nThere were a couple of swallows in the Incubator last week\, and the theme is\, of course\, The Swallows. The difference this time is that we hand write our poem this week\, and closer to the time of the next meeting\, revisit it and edit it as needed\, so that we can see the evolution of a poem. When we write and later edit on a computer\, the original and early edits are lost. It should be very interesting to see everyone’s processes. Have fun! \nLooking forward to see who comes out of the woodwork this month! \nWe welcome emerging and established poets and lovers of poems to come along to a supportive collective in a relaxed atmosphere. \nCome along to share your poetry\, and listen and enjoy poetry in all its forms. \nThe last of Tuesday of every month\, 7:00 pm – $5 koha\nNew poets and poetry lovers always welcome.\nBring some nibbles and wine\, of course! and your sense of humour ! \nJoin our Facebook group page here for updates
