Angie Belcher is an award-winning New Zealand children’s author, storyteller, teacher and adventurer. With decades of experience turning real-life adventures into stories, she has written across many genres, with particular success as a children’s picture book writer. Her work has received three Notable Book Awards, and she was a 2024 NZCYA Book Awards finalist.

What We Will Cover
- Finding ideas—and working out which ones have potential.
- The essential elements of a great picture book.
- Character, setting, plot, pitch and pace.
- Exploring different story structures and finding the best fit for your story.
- The language of picture books: rhyme, rhythm, alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia and more.
- Using mentor and comparative texts.
- Writing satisfying endings and editing your manuscript.
- What to do with your completed manuscript: submissions, competitions and other opportunities.
This is a practical, hands-on workshop. You will be expected to write during the session or work on a picture book manuscript you already have.
Angie is also available to run these workshops on request for specific groups, or to present to interested writing, reading or community organisations.
