Friendship Force: Travel & Home Hosting Group

The Friendship Force is not a travel club although the core activity is travelling in groups, to stay with like-minded people in other countries (a cultural journey).

The first priority is to develop friendships and through this to generate understanding across cultural boundaries.

Worm Composting Workshop Omokoroa

FOR WESTERN BAY OF PLENTY RESIDENTS ONLY

A home worm composting farm is a great way for you to deal with most of your kitchen food scraps and create rich compost for your garden. Come along to this hands-on, two-hour interactive workshop and learn the art of worm farming!

At the end of the workshop you’ll receive your very own Vermihut worm farm bin, tiger worms plus lime and compost (valued over $180), so you can get started straight away.

Benefits of your worm farm:
– Quick and easy to get rid of your kitchen scraps
– Lightens your rubbish bag – saves money!
– Creates a free, natural fertiliser
– Stops methane gas production by removing your food waste from the landfill
– Minimal in size, perfect for all sized gardens

This workshop is perfect for worm farm beginners with little or no experience, or for those who would like a refresher. If you do not require a worm farm, but you would still like to learn about worm farming, you are welcome to attend the workshop at no cost, however, you’ll still need to register.

    • 30 tickets per location for participants and 10 tickets for observers who must book a ticket but don’t pay a fee.
    • $50.00 per ticket for participants receiving the material after workshop – only one worm farm per household.

Please note, the workshop is subsidised by Council with a small fee charged. It is open to Western Bay of Plenty District Council residents ONLY. Just one worm farm per household can be issued, but for each paid registration, two people may attend. Our worm farm kits are specially ordered for each workshop based on attendee numbers, therefore we are unable to provide a refund for non-attendance. No door sales available.

Sourdough & Artisan Baking Class

Embark on the Sourdough and Artisan Baking journey and learn how to cultivate and maintain a  sourdough starter, make the dough, shape, rise and bake a wide range of products to perfection!

Years of research have shown that a Mediterranean style diet is one
of the healthiest around for heart health, cholesterol, weight and blood pressure control, diabetes and possible prevention of certain cancers and chronic diseases.

In this HANDS-ON class, ideas will be introduced on how to plan, cook and serve favourite foods in ways that will satisfy while sustaining wellness. A recipe booklet covering all meals of the day and all courses of the menu is part of the class.

Home Cheese Making – Four Cheese Class

The most popular cheese class to date! Perfect for newcomers to cheese making !  Ideal for groups or clubs or team building events

Ricotta   Mozzarella    Halloumi     Feta

Four cheeses are made in the class and a comprehensive recipe booklet is included.  During mid-morning break, tea/coffee is served with savoury ricotta slice and cheesecake. Generous  tastings of all the cheese made are served with home made Ciabatta bread and salad garnish at the end of the class.

Bolivia is a card game for four people playing in partnerships using two decks of cards and four jokers.

Great way to meet new people and exercise your brain a little.
