West Coast Swing Block Course
West Coast Swing is a partner dance with roots in the Lindy Hop. It is characterised by an elastic look that results from its extension-compression technique of partner connection and is danced primarily in a slotted area on the dance floor. The dance allows both partners to improvise steps while dancing together, putting West Coast Swing in a short list of dances that emphasize improvisation.
John Freeman and Anisa Samrethnimol will be taking you through the fundamentals of West Coast Swing for the first hour, followed by practical.
Dress casual for comfort; flat shoes with firm sole recommended.
Where: Arataki Community Centre, Zambuk Way
When : Fridays 7.30pm
Cost: First time to West Coast Swing, first class free. $15 casual or $80 for an 8-week block course.
