Café Scientifique: Marine Research “at the lab”

September 23 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

- $10

From rare sponges, swans, and great white sharks to Cyclone Gabrielle: what’s happening in our harbour and along our coast?

Café Scientifique Tauranga welcomes Prof Chris Battershill, once again, to present a review of the latest innovative research being undertaken at the University of Waikato marine lab.

From the rather bizarre act of protecting some sponges from being squished in a channel reclamation, to wondering why we seem to have a few resident white sharks in the harbour captures the range of research we do. What’s linking research is a fast-changing marine climate, catastrophic storms, and a need to keep our ecosystem resilient. This talk will encompass everything we do ‘down at the lab’.

  • Professor Chair in Coastal Science, University of Waikato, Marine Science and Aquaculture
