This month’s speaker is Charlotte Lobb
The topic for this Sunday Focus Session:
Every Word Matters: ‘Thinking about what we write and why…adding emotional depth to our writing’
Sunday Focus Session 21st April 2024
Charlotte enjoyed writing from a young age. It enabled her to express herself and to help release her wild imagination. As life grew more challenging, writing was also a way to process the enormity of her emotional struggles and the shame she bore about her journey with mental illness and time spent in mental health units.
Charlotte’s fear of rejection, judgement, and society’s unjust stigma inspired her to write through her imposter syndrome to publish her debut novel, Hannah and Huia. Not a quick or easy project, it took Charlotte to dark places and rescued her from dark places. Her hope is that Hannah and Huia may help normalise and demystify the experiences of those in the mental health system.
Before becoming an author, Charlotte was busy with ballroom dancing, violin, piano, and singing. She was also part of the New Zealand shooting team and later studied for a Bachelor in Speech and Language Therapy (Hons) at the University of Canterbury.
