Care and Craft
… bringing companionship & creativity to lonely lives…
The Care and Craft Centres cater for lonely house-bound people and not so mobile adults, known as guests, who are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of handcrafts and social activities. Guests are offered tuition and help in such handcrafts as: weaving, bathmats and knitted novelties, crochet, card making, painting, knotted rugs, toy making, Rumicub, indoor bowls and painted embroidery in a friendly, caring atmosphere.
If possible transport to the centres can be arranged for guests who require it. Offers from assistance from drivers are always greatly accepted.
Guests who attend the centres have a wide range of needs, and all – the handicapped, the emotionally distressed and elderly live alone, with little company – can benefit from association with the centres.
Volunteers organise and staff the centres which function in local halls one day a week, from approximately 9.30 am to 1pm, except during school holidays. Check the exact times with your local centre supervisor.
Morning tea and lunch are provided at a nominal charge.
