Pastel painters love the immediacy of drawing with a rich and painterly colouring power. If you haven’t used them before you may be surprised at how easily the essential techniques can be mastered. Learning to handle the pastels and the attractiveness of the work you can produce is very satisfying.
You are welcome to attend Mary’s sessions and see for yourself the versatility of this medium which is suited to either large, ambitious compositions right down to small quick sketches. The whole pastel process is one of ease and simplicity – no palette to organise, no canvas to prepare, no need for water or turps and no clean-up afterwards.
Mary is passionate about her medium and will welcome you to her sessions to share the pleasure of working with pastels and will show the various types of pastel available, their wide range of colours, subtle hints and textures.

“Attending Camilla’s breathwork and meditation class at the art gallery for the past six weeks or so has been absolutely amazing! It’s seriously become one of the highlights of my week. Right from the first session, I felt like I walked into a super cozy and welcoming space that Camilla effortlessly creates. She’s just so warm and caring, it’s impossible not to feel comfortable around her. And that vibe spreads to the whole group too, so we all end up feeling like one big supportive family.
The breathwork exercises themselves are seriously something else. They’re both energizing and relaxing at the same time, and every session brings something new. It’s like going on this incredible journey inside yourself, guided by Camilla’s immense talent and passion. Seriously, she’s a natural at what she does.
If you’re up for a beautiful and empowering experience, definitely give Camilla’s class a try. You won’t regret it!” – Sheryl

The perfect opportunity to have broken belongings assessed or repaired is right around the corner.
Tauranga hoarders, tinkerers and holders of broken gadgets can rejoice, as Tauranga’s Repair Café pop up opens up on the last Saturday of each month at 148 Durham Street, Tauranga. Get your objects fixed for free! Volunteers try to repair items destined for landfill. Get your objects fixed for free!
Repair Cafés are described as “free pop-up events” where local people can bring in their “broken or damaged belongings” to local volunteers, who do their best to repair or assess them.
Tauranga is joining the global movement with its own Repair Café with a volunteer driven initiative as part of Tinkd Makerspace.
According to a spokesperson, Repair Cafés aim to reduce waste and overconsumption.
They also encourage and foster the “do it yourself” spirit and strengthen social connections by bringing different members of the community together.
“The purpose of these events is two-fold: to try to change our “throwaway culture” and to bring people in the community together. An added bonus is that it saves people money,” says founder of Tinkd Makerspace, Steven Vincent.
“If their item can be repaired they don’t need to replace it, pay for more expensive repairs elsewhere, or send it to the landfill. If the item can’t be repaired, then at least we’ve tried!
For more information and tickets to the next Repair Café event, visit the Tinkd website.
When: Last Saturday of the month
Time: 9.30am – 11.30am
Where: Tinkd Makerspace, 148 Durham St Tauranga
The organisers are looking for more volunteer repairers with different skill sets to add to the events. It’s free to attend with an item but pre-booking an item is preferred as it allows the organisers to prepare for any repairs.
